Recharge Air Conditioning with Freon in a Chevy Cobalt - Locate the Low Pressure Side port quick connect valve. You can find this under the hood of the car. It is near the air conditioner evaporator toward the front of the engine. The Low Pressure Side port will have a cap marked L or Low. Remove the cap and put it in a safe place.Look at your air conditioning lines for signs damage. Some auto parts stores have kits that will help you to find leaks in the system and possibly seal small leaks. If you see any visible damage, take your Cobalt to a professional to repair the leaks and recharge the air conditioning system with Freon.
Start the car. Your air conditioner should be on the coldest setting and blowing as hard as possible so you can get a valid pressure reading. Check the air conditioning system pressure using an automotive air conditioner pressure gauge. You can find this at your local parts store. Connect the refill hose to the connector on the Low Pressure Side of the air conditioning system to add R134 refrigerant. The Low Pressure Side connector will be larger than the High Pressure Side connector will so the refill hose will fit properly only on the Low Pressure Side.
Open the valve slowly on the refill hose to allow the Freon to enter the air conditioning system. In most cases, you will have to hold the can upright. You may need to add more than one can of refrigerant.
