Recharge Air Conditioning with Freon in a Toyota Highlander

Recharge Air Conditioning with Freon in a Toyota Highlander - Test your air conditioning system for leaks using a leak detection kit. These are usually available at an auto parts store. If you see any visible damage, take your Highlander to a professional to repair the leaks and recharge the air conditioning system with refrigerant.Look for the Low Pressure Side service port. In most cases, it is centered in front of the engine of your Highlander. It has a black cap. Remove this cap and put it aside. You will need it later.
Check your air conditioning system pressure using an automotive air conditioning pressure gauge. Keep in mind that in order to get an accurate reading, the air conditioner in your Highlander has to be turned on the coldest setting with maximum blowing power. This makes the condenser kick on.
Connect the refill hose to the connector on the Low Pressure Side of the air conditioning system. The Low Pressure Side connector will be smaller than the High Pressure Side connector so the refill hose will fit properly only on the Low Pressure Side.
Turn the valve on the refill hose slowly to allow the refrigerant to enter the air conditioning system. Most kits require you to hold the can upright when you recharge the air conditioning system. It can take up to 15 minutes for the system to empty the can of refrigerant.
Sometimes, if your air conditioning system is working properly, adding refrigerant is all that is needed to correct the problem. You can use an automotive recharge kit from your local automotive store to do this. - by eHow
