Convert an Air Conditioning System With R22 Refrigerant to 410A Refrigerant

Convert an Air Conditioning System With R22 Refrigerant to 410A Refrigerant - Turn off all related circuit breakers.Disconnect the power from the blower fan motor and compressor motor.

Disconnect the thermostat wire.

Connect the pressure gauges to the AC unit. Connect the blue hose to the suction service valve and the red hose to the liquid line service valve.

Connect the yellow hose to the inlet of the recovery unit.

When R22 refrigerant leaks into the atmosphere, the hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) it contains depletes the ozone layer and must be phased out by 2015, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Consequently, refrigerants containing hydrochloroflorocarbon must be replaced with a more ozone friendly refrigerant like R410A which contains hydrochlorocarbon (HFC), a less harmful alternative. Because R410 has different operating characteristics than R22 refrigerant, the tubing, evaporator and condensing units of older air conditioning systems must be replaced to accommodate the R410A refrigerant.
