May 09, 2013
Troubleshoot a Frigidaire Air Conditioner - Check the unit is plugged in: it can be easy to forget that you unplugged the unit for the winter. The power switch on the control panel will also need to be moved to the "On" position before the unit will start working.Press the "Reset" button on the plug current device. Frigidaire air conditioners come with a special fuse attached to the power cable which will need to be reset if it is tripped. The air conditioner will not work unless the plug current device is reset.
Check your home's fuse or breaker box for faults. Blown fuses or tripped breakers can render certain outlets inoperable in your home. Try the air conditioner once the fuses or breakers have been restored to working order. Contact an electrician if you don't understand how your home's fuses or breaker work.
Wash the air filter on the front of the air conditioner in a sink of warm, soapy water and allow to dry. Excess lint and dust can restrict air flow out of the air conditioner and cause it to cool less efficiently. Replace the air filter in its slot behind the grille once it is clean and dry. You can also vacuum the air filter without removing it while the appliance is off.
Move the air conditioner to a place where air can move from the front grille without restrictions. Move furniture away from the air conditioner to allow better air circulation. You may find your air conditioner ices up or cools less efficiently when furniture is near the grille.
A Frigidaire window air conditioner --- or any air conditioner --- will sometimes malfunction due to minor problems which can be solved at home without special tools or expertise. Fixing your appliance yourself will save you time and money in the long-term. These troubleshooting steps help correct the most common faults reported to Frigidaire and other air conditioning companies. Does this Spark an idea? - by eHow
