Recharge Air Conditioning with Freon in a Ford Focus
May 07, 2013
Recharge Air Conditioning with Freon in a Ford Focus - Check your air conditioning lines for damage. Most auto parts stores have leak detection kits. Some of these will seal small cracks or punctures. If you see any other visible damage, take your car to a professional to recharge the air conditioning system with refrigerant.Locate the Low Pressure Side port of the air conditioning system. You can find this close to the firewall on the driver side of your Ford Focus. It has a blue or black cap marked with either an L or LOW. Take the cap off and put it in a safe place. You will need to replace it when you are done recharging the system.
Turn on the car and the air conditioner to check the pressure in the system. You can use an automotive air conditioner pressure gauge from your local auto parts store to do this.
Attach the refill hose to the connector on the Low Pressure Side of the air conditioning system. Make sure that you have the can of R134 refrigerant upright so the system can suction the refrigerant properly. It can take up to 20 minutes to empty the can.
Recheck the pressure. Overfilling the system can cause an explosion. If the pressure is still low, you can add more refrigerant. Make sure that you check the pressure often after the first can.
Having an air conditioner that is working improperly in your Ford Focus can make the hot summer months almost unbearable. Sometimes, if your air conditioning system is working improperly, adding refrigerant is all that is needed to correct the problem. You can use an automotive recharge kit from your local automotive store to do this. - by eHow
